Togo 0-2 Switzerland

Switzerland coasted to a 2-0 win over Togo. Alexander Frei and Tranquillo Barnetta scored for Switzerland.

This was a match which was marked with controversy before it started. Togo players intended to boycott the match over wage disagreement with their football association. FIFA had to step in at the last minute to prevent this debacle from happening.

Thus, the writing was on the wall on who will emerge as the victor but credit to Togo for putting up some decent play. They were very strong going forward and made lots of hard tackles. Soccer Pundit forsees a tough match ahead for France if Togo really plays to their true potential.

Having said that, the team spirit in the Swiss camp is very strong and that is what keeps them in the tournament so far. They do not have any superstars; only a compact team and solid defence. It may be luck or fate but whatever it is, they did not play fantastically but still managed a win.

As it stands now, they should progress from this group if they win or draw against South Korea. Soccer Pundit feels that Switzerland they will have to perform much better if they were to progress into the second round...

'Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I'm very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that.'
