Terry the Betrayer?

It is bad enough that The Special One is gone, but when it is revealed that the real reason is a betrayal by his most trusted aide... it is a plot best left for Hollywood movies. Chelsea fans can be forgiven for despairing over the club's future after a tumultuous week.

The official word from Stamford Bridge is that Jose Mourinho has to leave because he had lost the support of his playing staff. Who has the influence to get the Chelsea board to reach such a decision? To sack a manager who has given them two domestic titles and several Cup wins during his tenure?

The Guardian reports that Mourinho believes Terry is responsible for his dismissal. The breaking point came in the Champion's League 1-1 draw against Rosenberg last Tuesday. After Rosenberg scored the first goal by beating Terry in a set-piece, Mourinho went ballistic and accused Terry of sub-standard performances - a criticism which Terry did not respond to.

Terry was informed by the medics earlier in the week that Mourinho had demanded to know if there are physical reasons behind the captain's poor performance this season, after a back operation last December.

Chelsea's chief execute Peter Kenyon was aware of the squabble and used that as evidence to tell Mourinho that the key players no longer trust him. The two parties eventually settled on dismissal by mutual consent.

Mourinho then sent Terry a text message thanking him sarcastically for talking to the board.

It is sad to know that Terry has a part to play in Mourinho's sacking, after all both of them enjoyed the best of relationships - which is a key reason for the unity and stability of the team over the last few years.

Mourinho has revealed that he still loves England and is willing to return as manager in later years. For now, he prefers to move overseas to get more experience and he is keeping the dirty linens to himself.

"I am a man of war during competition, but I am a man of peace outside competition," he said.

That is a gentleman's approach and if the new manager and the key players who ousted him are not able to revitalize the club's fortunes, a lot of heads will fall. Soccer Pundit believes Mourinho will have the last laugh soon..
