Unbeaten Liverpool Wins 1-0

Liverpool continued with their unbeaten streak with a 1-0 victory over Wigan Athletic. After coming off a mid-week 4-2 League Cup win against Reading, in which Fernando Torres scored a hat-trick, fans can be consoled that Liverpool has finally got back into the scoring mode again.

However, the Reds struggled to find their form and nearly made it three league matches in a row where they are unable to score. They have previously drawn 0-0 against Portsmouth and Birmingham City.

The front-line pairing of Torres and Dirk Kuyt did not yield results and it was up to Israeli midfielder Benayoun to breach Wigan's determined defence.

Benitez declares his commitment to keep rotating players right after the match.

"If you can't find a solution then you need creativity and quality and that's what Yossi gave us," said Benitez. "Because we couldn't, we needed to bring on players with different skills and that was good. I wanted to use different players, with different skills, and Yossi has the intelligence for this kind of game."

"In this case, I needed to do different things. I wanted to rotate. I changed Yossi because I needed fresh legs."

Tinkering with the team during a match when it is not performing is the right thing to do, but fielding different teams every week even though they are winning is incomprehensible. The strategy may have worked for Benitez during his Valencia days but in the Premiere League, things are very much different.
